for its 6th release on ed banger records busy p asked his longtime friend from los angeles mayer hawthorne to write a love song. while the world is going crazy, the only answer is love. the song was recorded between threesome studio in paris and mayer’s own in l.a. to complete this ep, we’ve asked uk’s finest producers. the mysterious kda who’s topping uk’s charts, delivers an infectious remix with mental drums and funky twist. hot chip’s main man joe goddard has been one of my favorite producer ever. it was about time to have him on board! reckonwrong dropped the hottest ep of 2015 on young turks sublabel whities. his remix is pure magic. exotic beats with techno flavours. last but not least, we went experimental on this one! this is the first flow machines remix. the goal of flow machines is to research and develop artificial intelligence systems able to generate music autonomously or in collaboration with human artists.

patrick vanos next installment on mos ferry takes you on a journey. industrealized ep is an adventure ride between techno and house with side trips into minimal or psychodelic areas. after his tape jam ep and the following remixes patrick did not sit back complacently. he mixed and compiled selected vibes, vol.5, was part of our mos ferry takeover boiler room in berlin and not to mention the long nights he spent in the studio for this release. the result is quality tunes right to the point.

spencer parker concludes his different shapes and sizes series with a pair of robust house numbers this april. parker conceived the series as a method of showcasing his love for different shades of house and techno and the final edition sees the work them records founder demonstrate his versatility once again. part three initiates with a thumping dancefloor workout titled riff shapes that incorporates an uplifting chord sequence and crunchy percussion. on the flip, size:yes sees a throbbing lowend join skipping drums as rave inspired stabs add to the track s commanding energy.

asteria is the new overwhelming mechanical power ep by tarvisium electronique. the vinyl consists of four powerful acid techno tracks produced by steve lorenz. the rude analog sound has been processed by a powerful valve system joining acid and hypnotic patterns created by a 303 synthesizer. white abstract is the new alias that lorenz will use during live performances.

inspired by china mieville’s “the limits of utopia”, hence therefore sharpens his techno soundscapes - angling into the dancefloor. with clattering bicycle spokes, experimental choral dirges and polyrhythmic interplay, we are invited to consider how we deploy our dances and despairs, and against whom.

taking under black helmet and twr72 on board, konflkt presents its 3rd vinyl release “form reality”. two diverse vocal-driven originals by dotwav set the foundation. under black helmet stomps his no-nonsense bassline over the title track while twr72 shakes up “expecting you” into a siren-laced techno jam.

glaswegian techno stalwart edit select presents the thirtieth effort in his edit select records series. “aftereffekts” is a 4 track release that opens with the thumping “the visitor”, this track combines puzzling percussive movements with otherwordly pads which subtly build to a hypnotic climax.
“fallen” is a broad sounding cut with an almost orchestral touch to it. the uncanny drum patterns and repetative fx make for a solid voyage. “aftereffect” is a percussion laden cut with soul touching strings that float throughout. “you” is a melancholic piece of art that incorporates heavenly pads with beautifully orchestrated rhodes sounds and a hypnotic drumtrack.

oxias classic domino gets reworked for its ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. a decade after initially seeing the light, oxias now classic domino gets reworked to celebrate its anniversary. the new release features a new cut by oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than frankey & sandrino, robag wruhme and matador. the ep will be released through agoria’s newly found record label sapiens on february 24th. ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house djs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, its a very dear project to oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. the set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by oxia ever. finding remixers took some time, the amazing frankey & sandrino whos track acamar is my absolute favourite of 2015, matador that just launched his rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at kompakt robag wruhme. they are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this ep

after some releases on several interesting label in the techno scene, reform make return to etruria with their strong new ep called “checkmate-, which includes two remixes from the soma talent charles fenckler and the belgian amelie lens . first original is a melodic track characterized by hypnotic synths which interchange everytime in the arrangement and also dirty and powered drums. amelie version’s express exactly her style, giving to the tracks something magic with the vocals added, making a very true and enigmatic game of chess. second original instead is dominated by a strong pad, which fill up the mix, blowing up in the break and giving an epic feeling to the ensemble. charles’s remix is techno with no excuses: raw powerful and groovy, is the perfect end for this pack, giving a much more underground touch to the release.

tobias. returns to ostgut ton with his third full length eyes in the center and expands the musical narrative laid out by his helium sessions ep (o-ton, 2016). the berghain resident keeps exploring the vast modular synth-driven techno, experimental and ambient territories on a journey in-between genres. tobias freund is long established as an influential artist and has – since the early 1990s – been working as a professional producer, sound engineer, label owner and strictly live musician. besides his early solo projects (such as pink elln, metazone or phobia) he’s also been collaborating with dandy jack (as sieg Über die sonne), ricardo villalobos (as odd machine), max loderbauer (as nsi.), valentina berthelon (as recent arts) and atom tm to only name a few. with his vast experience, diverse output and interests, tobias. doesn’t tire to actively push against existing boundaries and explore new areas of electronic music.

the newly formed hungarian pæonï music is making waves with its first outing. grema, the man behind the label and its debut release, is a well known character in budapest s underground techno and house scene. all three cuts on delays ep are for the dance floor, specifically designed to make people move. darker, dubby prophet-8 chords are reinforced by dynamic drum-sets and samples, which finely balance between the modern and traditional side of house music.

selected advent deal. 2017 repress!!! one of the two the other people place releases (the warp full length and this 12). drexciyan involvement in this classic release is obvious. one of the deepest and intense tracks with such a warm positive vibe. flipside contains a track by mystic tribe. (not very mystical of course for those who know the history of detroit techno. unique track from a unique project... and there are not many projects with tribe in its name. their release on retroactive is one detroit techno collector items). one of those records that get you through the day. classic!!! re-issue on the clone aqualung series with new artwork.

harmonies is the new long player from underground super-producer lord echo. the new album solidifies his already distinctive mutations of reggae and rock steady with disco, african soul, techno and spiritual jazz. in other words, the lord has returned from the wilderness with a bounty for his followers. eat of the bread of life and enjoy access to his crazy world of sound.

oscars blood is peter van hoesens tenth solo ep for his own time to express label. it features four new tracks, composed and refined in the producers berlin studio and properly tested during several shows in late 2016 and early 2017. both oscars blood and circumference 12 feature van hoesens take on driving and hypnotic techno. he applies a different approach to unit prep and theoretical terminal. both compositions take their cue from subtle yet vibrant percussive patterns, extending into blissful atmospheres.

fedbymachines has been active for almost a decade now, lurking in the undercurrents of netlabels and digital releases. now shipwrec shine the vinyl light of this shapeshifting musician, an artist who has ably turned his hand to a dizzying spread of styles. this skill is amply shown on his first wax release, relapse ep, where a glut of genres are fed into the machine. ambient. electronica. techno. electro. all are combined to create a textured sound, one of delicate strings, ghostly clicks and static. ochre closes the quintet with a remix, one that amplifies the organic nature of this absorbing encounter.

the sound of detroit by one of its unsung heroes, amp fiddlers new album motor city booty coming straight off the d funk assembly line, a full on dance floor affair from motown to p-funk, techno and neo soul. this 12 track album produced by amp fiddler & yam who? includes the massive soul fly sounding like a mark ronson production had he been hanging out with george clinton s parlet followed by the bonafide p-funk anthem steppin both featuring the stunning vocals by the dames brown girls. amp fiddler is credited for taking both a young j dilla and also q-tip under his wing teaching them his akai mpc techniques, setting the path for some of hip hops finest recordings which have defined the shape of things to come. his musical collaborations & current duties include: moodymann s musical maestro, keyboard wizard for theo parrish s live band, a longstanding funkadelic member, co-writer for sly & robbie, prince, maxwell, jamiroquai & seal to name a few.

repress , from moods & grooves to sistrum, brian harden has served up more than enough soulful, synth-led house and techno in his time. it s just the kind of style that suits the mood on d3, and so the label has picked up his essential -chicago to detroit- jam and called upon a fine selection of remixers to rework the track. first up is byron the aquarius, who drops some expressive broken beat drums into the mix to spar with the illustrious melodic tones to great effect. meanwhile the label boss brian gets busy with a classic, straight-up adaptation on his -chicago sur seine mix- before patrice scott opts for an energised variation with poignant new rhodes-esque keys floating on top.

up next on 20/20 vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving nathan jonson. following a decade of producing and dj ing as hrdvsion, nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. cross colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for. when we heard cross colours we were all in agreement that luke vibert would be the perfect remixer. luckily luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. the b side is rounded off with a club focused version from ralph lawson & rui-z (which has already being championed by seth troxler on his most recent essential mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year.

swiss duo me & her join the hottrax roster with a robust release featuring british duo dense & pika and detroit’s dj bone on remix duties. with recent appearances on deeperfect, natura viva and clarisse records, the rising duo has quickly cemented a reputation as ones to watch since making their production debut back in 2014. joining them on the release is dense & pika, who have been taking the world by storm whilst releasing on leading labels such as adam beyer’s drumcode, scuba’s hotflush, not to mention renowned uk imprint hypercolour. meanwhile, dj bone needs little introduction having paved the way for quality techno for over two decades including running his renowned subject detroit imprint. sturdy kicks and intricate effects drive ‘wild rage’ forward before introducing metallic snares and animated melodies. on the other hand, ‘thunderstruck’ is a dusky production composed of heady stabs and echoing elements that together generate a compelling groove. dense & pika’s shuffling remix of ‘wild rage’ shines a spotlight on a tantalizing synth as eerie nuances operate throughout, before dj bone concludes the package with a trippy and percussive reinterpretation of his own.

panorama bar regular bwana unites his dual loves of vintage 90s electro and classic progressive trance on this three track ep for duskys 17 steps label. achieving widespread critical acclaim with last years techno homage to the akira soundtrack - capsules pride - on luckyme, bwana has since released eps on his club ready home aus and fort romeaus cin cin, as well as appearing on 17 steps with a cult remix of duskys ingrid is a hybri - itself something of a panorama bar favourite. on this ep, the illustrious producer presents three contrasting but cohesive tracks in the dark acidic three way is the hard way, hypnotic dark trance builder hell is other robots and classic electro homage on patrol for their control. completing the package, the inimitable avalon emerson bends three way is the hard way’ into a glitchy, percussive groover that builds crunchy layers of dark drums around the original’s twisted sonics.

gardens of god sodai imprint continues to unearth creative production talent from the label’s native city of vilnius with the third and latest artist from the city to feature on the label. introducing talassa barda for his debut introducing three expertly crafted techno cuts. lead track wolf has a howling big room sound effect and a dark techno underbelly. human with it’s haunting like qualities develops into a peak time monster that is sure to thunder in vast spaces over the summer. finally, bleed is a rolling acid tinged track that fuses electro, breakbeat and techno for possibly the most interesting of all three.

schmer-007 smoking is still bad for you volume 1 is here and contains old school and new cool tracks from all the original schmer culprits plus some loops from our new friends. dietrich schoenemann and prototype 909 dug their tracks out of their vast archives of unreleased originals. dj rx-5 and bpmf delivered some hot new schmers to get us moving again. for the last 20 years we’ve all been tormented by the great issues facing mankind and most vexing among them of course was when will the next schmer record finally come out? i am happy to say that the answer, my record distributing friend, is now! prototype 909 demands that you ( redacted ) the volume! a track recorded in 1997 and finally getting released for the first time here. prototype 909 was a group from new york that made techno in the 90s. since then, the three members of this group all went on to do things. #truefacts dietrich schoenemann has been so busy being one of the last men cutting all the records in the world that he hasnt had time to organize his catalog of unreleased gems. i distracted him with the old look over there trick and stole 8 feet from him while he wasn t looking. (hopefully he didn t recognize it while he was mastering it) the last schmer vinyl was dj rx-5 a taste for crap ep from the then moscow based very underground dj compass vrubell. nina kraviz thought it was so crappy she put a track from it on fabric 91: nina kraviz, so i asked alexey to make some more crap. he did it his shway and this is the result. ( ps he still has all the patterns for the rx-5 from the original release so remaster, remixes and rereleases are in schmer s future, huzzah!) bpmf the original schmer artist had nothing better to do so he kommt back and gave us this track. we love to torture the engineer so we just had to include some loops: rhizome is the alter-ego of moscow wunderkind nikita zabelin. philly based hero/victim has been victimizing soundsystems up and down the east coast with his mad live performances. the wise caucasian is a pseudonym for some super famous london based producer and label owner, or at least thats what he claimed when i picked up his bar tab.

matuss takes techno and turns it on its head. the cybernetic sound has been filled with human emotion, giving it a more organic feel than much of the music that would fall under the genre. she opens her absence seizure 007 ep in trademark style, with a dark jacking cut entitled pitchureque, in which a pulsating bass line throbs alongside ominous acid swells and disorientating panning effects. next up, tektango takes a different route honing in on a set of live tribal tinged percussion, which sway and dissipate with hypnotic effect driven further into the depths with a bubbling synth lead and filtering atmospherics. this live percussion gives the track that organic feel mentioned earlier. escapade kick starts the b-side with a robust rhythm, built from the ground up with resonant hi hat stabs, echoing claps and sturdy kicks which forms the framework for a deranged lead melody laced with wide open synths and emotive chords to carry the groove. closing the package is fonque, where flanger-tinged snare rolls work in unison with driving rhythms, delicate arpeggios and an intricate 303 bass line to create an infectious closing cut.

from his early releases as lusine onward, jeff mcilwain’s electronic explorations make up one of the more diverse discographies of the past decade and a half. effortlessly blurring the lines between techno, electro-pop and experimental composition, the texas-raised/seattle-based producer’s arrangements are meticulously constructed, but also filled with emotion and soul. with an introspective turn that’s hinted at in the record title, lusine’s fourth album for ghostly sees mcilwain diffusing the pop-leanings of 2013’s the waiting room with opaque, brush-stroked melodies washing over these new buoyant productions.

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep‘ is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

at a recent gig in macedonia, he played an incredible “live pure data” set, using real-time graphical data flow programming to create all his own sounds. with this huge wealth of knowledge and a hard drive stacked with unreleased productions, his ‘spookz ep’ is long overdue. he describes his music as industropical or funkyndustrial and when you hear his two original cuts on this ep, these descriptions become more apparent. ‘spookz’ is dappled and harmonious with sweeping electronics and in-depth grooves. ‘prance for me’ is atmospheric and quaking in its deliverance, showing all his innovation and creativity. the ep comes with two stellar remixes. the first is by el prevost who delivers a grinding reworking of ‘prance for me’. el prevost has been forging his sound over the last decade, gradually shifting into the house and techno scene in particular for uk label, third ear and his most recent self-run label, no speakers, which boasts a varied artist roster that includes doorly, red rack em, wbeeza, 65d mavericks and gabbi lopez. rommek’s remix of ‘spookz’ follows and shows why this recently emerging artist is fast becoming a definitive force on the techno scene. fellow loose lips collective member, rommek made his production debut on weekend circuit, before joining james ruskin’s iconic blueprint label who released his ‘moth hole ep’, plus an appearance on their 20th anniversary compilation, ‘structures and solutions’ gaining him an admirable reputation for textured sound designs.
